In march 2010 I got to do some work experience with John Penman. I got to assist John with a comission from Grafton distrcit Auckalnd. We were overlaying plates for an outside monument. John planned to do a tile mosaic using the plates cut into tiles. The commission was a two sided Plinph in an cylindrical shape of an autum scene and a summer scene, with the Grafton at the top.

He seemed like and open minded man always ready to accept new ideas even from me. I suggested ways to help him with his commision that were warmly recieved, this impressed me because artists do things in a very paticular way and dont recieve help well from others.

He worked well with his assistant they seemed to flow well together working as one to create there intended result.

Mat his assistant was really helpful, while I was preparing colour for the plates he gave me many tips and hints as well as giving me demonstrations on ways to improve my technical skills with simple tweaks to my method that I had for the most part developed on my own at university.

I feel that I learnt a lot due greatly to there open and helpful ways.
