![]() ![]() In march 2010 I had the privilage to watch and learn from Garry Nash for a few days. Garry is an extrodinary man, he was really the first to bring glass art to New Zealand. Watching him work was interesting, when making he doesn't need to watch the work he just seems to do it by touch alone. He has been in the same studio for the majority of his glass blowing carrier in new zealand, having at different times varying numbers of assistants. This has led in part to an eclectic feel to his studio. It must have been impressive to imagine the studio when its was at it's buisiest, seeing all that machineary in action. He has spent a great deal of time working solo, He does the job of two people quite easily. He has only recently changed his focus to the New Zealand gallery scene (exhibiting all over New Zealand). Coming from a time making art for an international audience, to concentrating on more specialised one off projects to finally a more local approach. While I was with him in his studio he was getting prepareing work for a exhibition in gallery just outside auckland on an Island called Waiheke in the Waiheke Art Gallery. He was excited to do this show, it seemed to me that it has helped to stoke his passion for the craft. |
